Teaching and Learning

Dr. Will Parker of the National Board and Professional Teaching Standards gave a presentation on what matters for teachers success in the classroom. And ultimately two things are paramount; teaching and learning. Within those two facets there are three principles that he examined and discussed, those three principles are teacher behavior, student responses, and student learning. Although linked and closely connected those three things serve as a continuum to produce effective teaching and ultimately accomplished teaching. Among other things, Dr. Parker stated that the three principles that move an average teacher to an accomplished teacher are rigor, relationship, and relevance. It is with those three traits that one can become an accomplished teacher that has a vast impact on student learning and achievement. Dr. Parker dealt with the many reasons teachers aren’t successful as well; such as triggers, which really places a scale over the educators eye which affects the way in which they see, understand, touch, and teach students.
