The Innovative Teacher - The Fire To Inspire! Part I

This evenings workshop was facilitated by Mr. Hayward Jean. Mr. Hayward Jean is a 7 year veteran educator who has worked with mixed and single gender classes since his tenure, Jean has experienced continued success which incorporated progressive teaching practices into his well manages classrooms.
The workshop was centered around innovative teaching allowing us to step out of our comfort zone to maximize potential in ourselves with high hopes in that energy being transferred to our hopes in ourselves with high hopes in that energy being transferred to our students. Mr. Jean asked a question. He said, “ When you walk into a room, how does the room react to your presence?” Is there a positive, negative, or indifferent reaction? Mr. Jean shared with us 4 ideals I believe a confident teacher should have that I refer to as the 4 Be-Attitudes:

                1. Be Real: If you don’t mean/ believe it, do pretend that you do.
                2. Be Focused: Know your goal ,plan, and achieve.
                3. Be Engaging: Immerse yourself and your students in learning.
                4. Believe: Believe in yourself and others that you can achieve.

Being a teacher is mediocre, and educator is going above and beyond” -Mr. Howard Jean

“One of the most intimate experiences you can have with an individual is to engage in education”- Mr. Hayward Jean.  Mr. Jean expressed his passion about students exploring further into education allowing his students to not only know the material but understand and it making it relevant to them. He also shared with the fellows that it’s OK to not know something but to be able to take that ignorance, encouraging students, research individually and as a group to eliminate the ignorance. “As educators, we don’t participate in ignorance, we eliminate it.” -Mr. Hayward Jean

Why Do You Want To Become A Teacher?

Knowing and understanding your role in education is very important. It plays a serious factor in society. As Mr. Jean states “knowing your ‘why’ is value” He defines our ‘WHY’ in 4 key concepts:

                1. Light: Knowledge that shows students where they are and where they want to go.
                2. Heat: Warmth needed for students who come from a “cold” environment.
                3. Welder: The ability to use passion to bring people together.
                4. Refiner: A purifier, consistently checking your intentions and motives.
