Opening Ceremony

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund kicked off its 2nd Teacher Quality and Retention Program (TQRP) this week on the campus of Prairie View A&M University, one of the 47 public Historically Black Colleges and Universities that the fund serves. TQRP is an institute to help prepare and develop the next generation of leaders in the classroom. This specific institute is for pre-service and in-service males; with a focus on equipping and empowering them with best practices, leadership, trends, and praxis support to prepare the best educators in the world.
The opening ceremony was highlighted by Dr. Yates, Dean of the School of Education and Dr. Will Parker of the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. Dr. Yates gave a welcome to the university and his happiness of having of 30 male educators that were seeking development this week. He also spoke to his experiences and his desire to help African-American male teachers not only be great, but succeed and soar as educators. Dr. Will Parker gave the charge for the week; he wanted the fellows in the program to not learn, but master our educational practices through perfected learning and teaching.
